LG 42LF5600 LED TV Review

LG 42LF5600 TV Review

LG 42LF5600 (MSRP $ 499) is a Full HD (1080p) intermediate option of LG, and it was about as frills-free TV come today. Basically, this is the 2015 version of the LG LB5600 from last year, and did not deviate much from the simple design of older models and interfaces.

Unfortunately, LF5600 42-inch also did not improve much on our weaknesses discovered during testing last year's model. While it is good to room brightness, contrast and black level luminous shallow complicate this TV to see the best in more demanding dim or dark theatrical lighting. The proprietary LG IPS panel provides a solid color and grayscale accuracy and more than enough brightness for well-lit room, but do not have the flexibility to darker environments.

At this price, 42-inch LF5600 not bad value if you are aiming to set it up in a room with lots of lights or windows, but if you need something with better contrast performance in the same price range, there are better options out there , Consider checking LE653U Sharp 43-inch ($ 379 online) or 40-inch Samsung J5500 ($ 499 online).

Series Information

LF5600 series is available in two screen sizes

LG LF5600 series is available in 32-inch (Model: LG 32LF5600, MSRP: $ 379) and 42-inch (Model: LG 42LF5600, MSRP $ 499) sizes. Both TVs feature Full HD (1080p) resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate, as well as an identical design, color, port audio / video, and remote control.

Users can expect a very similar performance between the two sizes in the series LF5600. 42-inch test unit we purchased new from Amazon retail.

Hardware & Software

This TV sporting a minimal design and a very broad manner.

42-inch LF5600 follow the trend of entry-level and midrange LG's selection of this year and last year, giving a sleek, minimal appearance and charcoal simple finish to look good in the various rooms.

The panel and attractive thin bezels, and rests on two legs pointing (not the usual rectangular pedestal). As with other LG TV, the user must check that the TV stand or surface wide enough for this TV to rest after; You must stand at least 39 inches wide.

TV rear casing is smooth charcoal-colored plastic which gives way to a second port audio / video side-and rear-oriented. You will find the average amount of flexibility port for entry-level TVs, including two HDMI inputs, one USB 2.0 port, digital (optical) audio out, component together / composite jacks, RF (coaxial) inputs, and a control port RS -232C , Videophiles may find themselves missing the added flexibility provided by three or four HDMI inputs, but no one HDMI switcher can not fix. It's worth pointing out that while the RS-232C jack a lot like a standard headphone jack looks, it certainly is not one.

Included with the TV is a simple infrared remote control. Black plastic remote round and medium heavy air lends durability, and was packaged edge-to-edge with buttons for various functions. Highlights include volume / channel rocker, play / pause button, and a number of full pad. There are some redundant buttons, too, for example, "menu q.," "Picture," and "sound" all key takes you to the quick-access menu the same.

The layout of the menu here is just as simple as TV appearances, but as usual it was full LG goods advanced calibration controls and many useful features. Menu image allows for a wide range of picture modes (Vivid, Standard, APS, Cinema, Game, Expert1, and Expert2) and voters gamma, white balance control 2/20 point, and CMS (Color Management System full). This control is always valuable for drawing a perfectionist, and doubly so on a TV budget like this where calibration can be painstakingly every ounce of performance.

Besides the ability to play back photos, videos, and music on USB storage devices are connected, it's all she wrote. You will not find smart features or 3D function here-only screen and lots of ways to adjust.

Image Quality

LG is not a lot of things right, but do not have the flexibility for movie night.

Among the affordable LED TV, which LF5600 42-inch has a lot to brag about. Tests revealed a strong performance profile, including clean, free color shades of gray, reliable color accuracy, wide horizontal viewing angle, and a very bright highlights. In the end, this TV offers a striking, clear picture that makes content such as cartoons, news, sports, and video games look very good-especially in well-lit environments.

The LF5600 is not the best choice for dim or dark lighting, however. Although it offers a lot of brightness, overall contrast is poor because the tone is very luminous shadow. This strengthened testing, but it is very easy to see with the naked eye when you're watching a movie content: line items "near" black elements like the Batman utility belt-fade in the shadow and washable, so it is difficult to make out details. The best option is to crank TV gamma settings (2.2 default) to brighten the shadows and midtones a little, but this makes it somewhat unsatisfactory dark room viewing.

Of course, this is not a big problem if you do not watch movies or movie content with a lot of dark, scene shadow, but it does not mean some serious problems for the TV's flexibility. Regardless of price, resolution, backlight type, or other basic features, the best TV must be able to perform optimally both in light and dim environments.

Viewers picky can also take a bit of a problem with the performance of this LF5600 motion. Because it uses a panel of 60 Hz, these TVs may show occasional blurring during fast action content such as sports, and will restrict frames per second on a PC game that is very restless. If not, it reliably reproduce the motion for most broadcast and Blu-ray, which tends to play back at 24 or 30 Hz.

Finally, we were disappointed with the TV's backlight uniformity. When the watch in the dark, top and bottom edges flashlighting exhibition display (backlight bleed) are particularly evident for content shadows or when the letter (16: 9) black bars on the screen. This (again) would not be very noticeable if you watch the ambient light, but quite visible in the dark.

Result

TV is not bad for the price if you have a bright living room.

LG 42LF5600 is a major player in many areas-IPS type of panel provides a wide viewing angle, good color production, neutral tones clean, and plenty of brightness peaks. Most of the content looks spot-on as long as you're watching in the space a bit dim.

If you decide to turn off the lights for a movie night, however, you may be disappointed with the shadow of this TV production, which is more luminous than we want-especially if you're already accustomed to better black levels.

If you decide to turn off the lights for a movie night, you may be disappointed with this TV production shadow.
Lack of flexibility is seeing the biggest flaw of this LF5600. While it was not bad on paper, was beaten by the similarly priced models that can function more optimally in a wider variety of conditions notice.

Contrast is a big key picture quality is good, so if you really manage to get a day and a night-time use of your new TV, consider checking choice of roughly the same size as Sony's new R510C series. Model tested with the same color accuracy and brightness, but also capable of producing the type of tone dark shadow that videophiles missed.
